    Learning

The Learning module lets you build courses, run them for your learners, and sell them as part of your catalog.

    Who it is for

    • Training teams, academies and schools that teach online.
    • Businesses that sell courses alongside their other products and services.
    • Instructors who prepare course content and follow their learners.

    Availability

The Learning module appears in Studio as Learning Manager in your workspace's modules. Open your workspace in Studio, go to Modules, and open the Learning module. Its menu has three groups:

    • Courses: All Courses.
    • People: Students and Instructors.
    • Catalog: Collections and Categories.

To see courses you need permission to read courses. To add, edit or delete them you need the matching course permissions. Your workspace administrator grants these through security roles. Availability of the module can depend on your plan.

    What you can do

    Build courses

A course has a title, a code, a description, a schedule and an effort estimate. You organize its content in sections and units, and you add pages, wikis and articles, libraries, handouts and files. Each course has its own navigation in Studio, so everything that belongs to a course is in one place.

See Create and publish a course.

    Organize your catalog

    • Categories group courses by subject.
    • Collections group related courses under one name, for example a learning path. You create collections in Studio, under Catalog > Collections. To add or remove a collection's courses, select Courses in the collection's actions: the dialog lists its courses, lets you add one with the Course selector, and removes one with its remove button. Changing a collection's courses needs permission to update courses. You can also do it through the Learning service of the REST API (/api/v2/LearningService/CourseCollections/{collectionId}/Courses).

    Manage instructors and students

Instructors and students each have a profile linked to a contact in your workspace. You assign instructors to a course team, enroll students in a course, and organize enrolled students in cohorts.

    See Students, instructors and enrollments.

    Sell courses

A course is part of your catalog, and you set its price and currency in Studio. Coming: selling a course like any other item, where the buyer is enrolled once they pay and a full refund ends the enrollment. Today, to give a learner a course, enroll them yourself.

    See Sell courses.

    Recognize completion

You can design certificate templates for a course and issue completion certificates to your learners. Staff issue certificates; learners see only their own certificates in Studio.

    Keep learners informed

Each course has Updates for announcements and Forums for discussion among the course community.

    Enrollment status

Every enrollment has one of three statuses:

    Status What it means
Active The learner has access to the course.
Completed Coming. Today no enrollment reaches this status: enrollments are Active or Revoked.
Revoked Access was withdrawn, for example after a full refund.

A revoked enrollment is final. If the learner joins the course again, they get a new enrollment.

    Coming

    • Grading and quizzes for courses.
    • Learner progress, learning hours and pending tasks (the student dashboard shows Not available yet for these today).
    • Course completion, and certificates issued automatically on completion.
    • Selling courses: buying a course, with enrollment once it is paid.
    • A free course that enrolls the learner through checkout.
